A name and brand for Wellcome Trust’s online publication that reaches global audiences across multiple digital platforms.

thebigwindow have worked with the global charitable foundation since 2011 on a number of projects aimed at raising the profile of the Trust and engaging global audiences.

Mosaic is published by the Wellcome Trust and is focused around long-form articles on aspects of biology or medicine that affect our lives, our health and our society. It tells stories with real depth about the ideas, trends and people that drive contemporary life sciences.

Part of the challenge was ensuring the identity for Mosaic sat centrally within the Wellcome Trust’s brand family, while still owning a distinct marque. The marque uses the texture of a DNA fingerprint and visually reflects the title’s name. The name itself references a phrase that Henry Wellcome used to express the interconnectedness of life – ‘Nature’s jigsaw’.

The simplicity of the layouts whether viewed on a desktop or device helps the reader focus on the long-form articles that tell stories with real depth about the ideas, trends and people that drive contemporary life. While the eclectic, bold and contemporary photography and illustration styles punctuate and bring the life articles to life.
